Busy Semester

I started to teach a new 5th grade class this semester. It's really a hard mission for the students nowadays are so untoward and self-centered, so I should pay more attention to them.

On Sep 18, I took my students to the fallow farm near the school. We spent 1.5 hours to sprinkle the helianthus seeds on the farm. And hope we can see all the flowers blooming 2 months later.

I don't know if the helianthus bloom or not, but I hope the seeds I planted in my students' heart can bud constantly.... :)

My Opinions About Portfolios

★What do you see in the future in regards to technology and educational technology?

I think in the future the technology and educational technology will be the main current in every domain in the world. As an educator, we should develop and advance our technology ability applied in our course and make our students know how to use it in their daily life. It’ important for them to realize how to use technology well and adapt the technological future.

★ If you were granted $20,000 to use in your school for educational technology, how would you use it?

First, I’ll spend $10,000 on projectors to make every classroom in my school owns the fixtures. So that every teacher in his classroom can easily use his computer projecting in the screen on the wall and show some interesting graph, pictures, and stories etc. to the students.

Next, I’ll spend the spare money buying computers for some students in poverty. I think although they couldn’t choose what environments they born to be, they can improve themselves by learning and studying. Technology will be the main current in the future, and if they can learn how to use computer when they are young, the technological learnig will open their eyes and mind and lead them to see and think clearly what the world actually is.

★ How would you use a portfolio (think about grants, raises, changes in position, like the building techie, etc. )

In teaching, I use a portfolio to memorize and organize what I think and want to present to my students in class. I’ll classify the materials by subjects and functions. When the course proceeding, I can find and show the information easily and quickly from the potfolio and make my students know more about the knowledge that can’t be found from the textbooks.

In counseling, I use a portfolio to record students’ mental development. If I find something out-there, I’ll talk to my students and try to help them to face and solve their problems themselves. So I have a long-list-description portfolio to each student in my class. And I’ll keep them although they graduate from elementary school. I think it’s a procession and it can help me correct my strategies any time when I meet different students who have different problems.

About myself, I use a portfolio to note my daily expressions, photos, and acquaintance about books, movies, series, music etc.. I think it’s necessay for me to keep these in the portfolio and it signifies part of me. It can be a track including what I thought, what I was moved, what I saw, and who I am. Just like keep a diary, using technology tools today we have more and more different ways to keep it.

★ What would you or have you included in a portfolio -- think back to the one you needed to create for Undergrad and/or to get your current job (this can be paper or electronic or a combo)

I think I would have:

A teaching portfolio about:

1. Lession Plan
2. Leaning Activties Pictures, Records, and Films
3. Complenmentary Aritcles, Reports, and Informations
4. Students’ Transcripts
5. Internet Resources
6. Examination Tools

A counseling portfolios about:

1. Students’ Personal Data
2. Students’ Diary and Blog Records
3. Students’ Individual Depth Interview Records
4. Students’ Daily Behavior Observations
5. Parents’ Individual Interview Records
6. Blog about my class to tell or show something to my students

My personal Portfolios about:

1. A personal homepage to introduce myself from different stages.
2. Internet Albums to see what the world actually is from my sight through the lens
3. My favorite collections, like music, featurettes, and articles.
4. The softwares I often use, like Photoimpact, VLC media player, Real Player, Kkman, Scratch, Adobe Audition etc..

A Wonderful Baseball Game to Me

I have watched baseball game since I was an elementary school student. Every time when I walk into the baseball field, I always feel my warm blood flowing all over, and that makes my eyes kindled with excitement. I enjoy and cherish each baseball game I’ve attended. Each baseball game always teaches and tells me something when it’s going to the end.

From the baseball game in the evening on August 5, I actually learned some important things. That’s “Never say die” and keep fighting until game was over. We can’t predicate which team will win in the end, but just keep the passion yelling for our favorite team and make the game perfect and have no regrets. That’s actually what games for.

During the game, I appreciated the starting picther Jackson very much. His outstanding presentation and the great pitching content makes the game exciting. Sometimes he used fast ball to face off with the batter. I thought he’s a brave and smart pitcher with low ERA . Although it’s pitty that he almost had been shouting out the game when the batter hit a 2 score homerun in the last inn, he won the admiration of all audience. When he had been walking down from the baseball field, everyone stood up and greeted him with applause. The sight filled my heart with deep movement. And I’ll never forget the first MLB game I attended in my life.

An Assistive Technology Software Recommendation: Kidspiration

Kidspiration is an Assisitive Technology Software for K-5 students to learn in the classroom or at home. It uses the proven prinsiples of vistual learning to strengthen reading and writing skills, build conceptual understanding in math, and develop thinking skills across the curriculum.

Kidspiration includs 4 main parts:

1. Reading & Writing
2. Math

3. Science

4. Social Studies
Kidspiration also offers several additional tutorials to help teachers and students learn to use it quickly and successfully.

As an elememtary school teacher, I should teach all subjects above all of these in the classroom. I think it's helpful for me to use Kidspiration to supply the shortage of textbooks for its creativity and development. And it also teach students to clarity their thinking and to process, organize and priortize new information that I don't mention in class.

The Miracle Worker

I have read the story book since I was 8 years old.

But when the story told by Dr. Sid this morning, it seemed to take me back into the story again.

And it inspired me to be a good teacher like Annie Sullivan.

I know it's difficult to be, but I'll try, try, and try...

To be a miracle worker

And to make everything a miracle...
